Piper®Tool Fastening Procedure

NUMBER 1
Before beginning the fastening procedure, make sure your work area is in safe condition and all applicable personal protective equipment (PPE) is in satisfactory condition and worn.

NUMBER 2
Inspect the Piper®
tool, tether, and ball detent for any possible defects, and insure Piper & Muskegon Tools are imprinted on this device, which will insure the tool, meets required specifications.

NUMBER 3
Push the Piper®
tool over the nut or bolt head intended for the back-up device. Make sure full contact is made and the right angle lip on the Piper® is suitably contacted with the outer diameter on the flange.

NUMBER 4
Attach a suitable tether to the ring on the Piper®
and the other end to a stationary object. As in any fastening operation, make sure the area below is barricaded and clear.

NUMBER 5
The fastening operation is now ready. For hands free back-up, keep hands free of the Piper®
and apply necessary torque to the opposing side of the fastener.

NUMBER 6
Upon completion of tightening, the Piper®
may be removed by hand. If necessary, a hammer can be used against the strike plate of the tool for removal. Use the smallest hammer necessary. Make sure your tether is secure before removal begins.

NUMBER 7
When loosening nuts and bolts, the Piper®
may be restrained by the tether. The nut is contained in the Piper® by the ball detent. When the fastener is detached, push the nut out of the Piper® , and attach the tool to the next fastener.

NUMBER 8
The Piper®
tool is designed to enhance safety and effectiveness in the workplace. Proper care of the Piper® as a quality tool should be maintained.

NUMBER 9
During the course of operating the Piper®
tool, if more or less tension on the “ball detent” is required, remove the allen cap or eye-bolt protecting the threads, you can now adjust the depth with a screw driver (or for the 2 ¾” and larger, use a ¼” allen wrench).
